Betfred Championship Round 13 Round-Up

Betfred Championship Round 13 Round-Up

Betfred Championship leaders Featherstone produced a strong second-half showing to bounce back from their 1895 Cup final defeat with an emphatic 46-10 win at Newcastle on Thursday.

Half-back Morgan Smith, who started on the bench, scored a hat-trick tries after Rovers had led just 12-10 at the interval.

Ryley Jacks also crossed twice with further efforts from Jack Bussey and Gareth Gale putting the game beyond reach.

Rovers had started brightly with early tries from Joey Leilua and Matty Wildie but Alex Donaghy and new signing Ellis Robson replied.

A late Blake Ferguson try saw second-placed Leigh, last week's Wembley winners, snatch a 30-28 victory at Barrow.

The former Australia international claimed his second of the afternoon seven minutes from time and Ben Reynolds landed his fifth goal to hand the Centurions a slender win.

Barrow had fought back from from 18-0 and 24-10 down to lead with tries from Brett Carter, Luke Cresswell, Tee Ritson, Jarrod Sammut and Connor Saunders.

Edwin Ipape scored twice for the Centurions earlier on with Jame McDonnell claiming another.

At the opposite end of the table, bottom side Workington claimed their first points of the season with a 32-18 victory over London Broncos at Derwent Park.

An early try for Town from Tom Wilkinson was cancelled out by Rhys Curran but the hosts then powered away as Evan Simons and Caine Barnes touched down before a fine individual effort by Marcus O'Brien.

Dean Parata and Paul Ulberg pulled a couple back for the Broncos but Simons' second ensured the hosts, for whom Carl Forber kicked five goals, had too much.

York kept up their pursuit of the top two as they scored 22 unanswered second-half points to win 34-14 at Sheffield. James Glover, Bailey Antrobus, Ronan Dixon, Pauli Pauli and Marcus Stock (two) were their try-scorers.

Batley ran in eight tries as they chalked up an emphatic 46-6 success at Whitehaven. Dale Morton crossed twice with Lucas Walshaw, Ben White, Luke Hooley, Kieran Buchanan, Alistair Leak and Martyn Reilly also touching down.

Ryan Millar scored two of Bradford's five tries as the Bulls climbed to seventh with a 31-6 triumph at Widnes. Jordan Baldwinson, Kieran Gill and Joe Burton also got on the scoresheet.

Halifax thrashed Dewsburh 66-0 in the other match of the round on Tuesday.
