Canberra Raiders’ poor run of form in the NRL continued this past weekend as Ricky Stuart and his England contingent fell to a 16-24 defeat at the hands of Newcastle Knights.
George Williams notched two goals in the defeat while Elliott Whitehead was one of the Raiders most prolific metre-makers with 112. Ryan Sutton only featured for 22 minutes while hooker Josh Hodgson was absent from the side.
The Raiders have now lost each of their last five outings, sitting 12th in the NRL. Canberra will be looking to turn their fortunes on Saturday morning as they face Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs also head into next weekend’s fixture on the back of a defeat, 32-12 against St George Illawarra Dragons. Despite another defeat, Luke Thompson made more tackles – with 46 – than any other Bulldog. The former Saints prop-forward also ran for 137 metres across his two stints on the field.
It was a disappointing weekend all round for the England players Down Under with Tom Burgess’ South Sydney Rabbitohs side being hammered 0-50 by a rampant Melbourne Storm side.
Herbie Farnworth ran for more metres – a whopping 230 – than any other Brisbane player but couldn’t prevent his Broncos outfit being edged out 19-16 to Queensland rivals North Queensland Cowboys.
