Whitehaven and Dewsbury vying for place on BBC

Championship sides Whitehaven and Dewsbury Rams will battle it out for a place in Round Five of the Coral Challenge Cup on Wednesday (March 11), but also to feature on BBC with the winners following fixture at Newcastle Thunder in the following round set to be broadcast on the BBC Sport website.

The sides were set to meet in late February however the fixture had to be rearranged due to weather conditions meaning the clubs now face the prospect of back-to-back Challenge Cup ties in the coming days.

Whitehaven have struggled since their return to the Championship losing each of their five league outings in 2020. Haven’s most recent defeat came in the form of a 40-16 loss to Widnes Vikings. 

Dewsbury head into this weekend’s fixture on the back of three consecutive victories in the Championship against Halifax, Widnes Vikings and, most recently, Oldham. Lee Greenwood’s Rams sit 6thin the league heading into this week’s Challenge Cup tie. 

The Rams have twice won the Challenge Cup in 1912 and 1943 while Whitehaven are yet to play in a Challenge Cup Final.
