There will be two notable firsts in the coverage of the Fifth Round of the Coral Challenge Cup next month – with the BBC’s cameras heading for Newcastle Thunder, and Our League set to stream the all-Super League tie between Huddersfield Giants and Toronto Wolfpack.
The Giants-Wolfpack clash will launch the round on Wednesday March 11 (kick-off 7.45pm) at the John Smiths Stadium – and Huddersfield have today revealed special ticket prices for the Canadian club’s first visit to the ground. Adult tickets will be only £10, while entry for under 17s will be free.
BBC Sport have selected Newcastle’s home tie against the winners of the outstanding Fourth-Round match between Championship rivals Whitehaven and Dewsbury Rams for live coverage on Sunday March 15 (kick-off 3pm). Thunder have driven a huge Rugby League success story over a number of years, and this season are fielding teams in the RFL’s Reserve and Academy leagues to reflect the amount of youth and community development in the North-East.
The BBC coverage also offers an extra incentive to Whitehaven and Dewsbury, following the postponement of their Fourth Round tie which was originally scheduled for last Sunday and has now been rearranged for the Recreation Ground on March 11.
The full Fifth Round draw is: Featherstone Rovers v Hunslet; Hull KR v Leigh Centurions; Newcastle Thunder v Whitehaven or Dewsbury; Sheffield Eagles v Workington Town; Toronto Wolfpack v Huddersfield Giants; Wakefield Trinity v Bradford Bulls, Widnes Vikings v Swinton Lions; York City Knights v Rochdale Hornets.
And tickets are now on sale for Rugby League’s unique ‘triple header’: the semi-finals of the men’s Coral Challenge Cup and the Women’s Coral Challenge Cup Final at the University of Bolton Stadium on Saturday 6 June. The Coral Women’s Challenge Cup Final will kick off a massive day of Rugby League action at 11.15am, followed by the men’s semi-finals at 2pm and 4.30pm. Tickets, from £25 for adults and £12.50 for under 16s, are available here.
