There is a double-header of live Betfred Championship action this weekend courtesy of Our League with Swinton Lions hosting Leigh Centurions before Widnes Vikings travel to Dewsbury Rams at 6:15pm.
The Vikings have made a solid start to the 2019 season winning two of their three Championship fixtures so far meaning they currently sit in 5th spot. As for Dewsbury, they lost their opening game of the season before edging out Halifax in an impressive away victory.
The Rams earned a memorable victory over Widnes in April 2019, but the Vikings were victorious in the sides other two meetings.
Leigh Centurions are the current pacesetters – alongside Toulouse Olympique and London Broncos – having won all three of their Championship fixtures. John Duffy’s men earned a dominant 34-0 victory over fellow play-off hopefuls York City Knights a fortnight ago.
Swinton Lions managed a 0-14 victory over Whitehaven on the opening weekend of the Championship and did earn a victory over a Leigh club in form of amateur side Leigh Miners Rangers in Round Four of the Coral Challenge Cup.
However, the odds are very much stacked against Swinton with Leigh winning each of their last 15 meetings with Swinton and each of their last fourteen away meetings with Swinton.
While London Broncos have a perfect record in this year’s Championship, so do their opponents this weekend Featherstone Rovers although James Webster’s side have only played two fixtures to date.
London have adapted to life back in the Championship quickly with victories over Bradford Bulls, Whitehaven and Widnes. The Broncos’ do come into this weekend on the back of a narrow defeat to York City Knights in the Challenge Cup, however. The Rovers have knocked of Batley and Bradford on the road so far and will be looking for a third consecutive away victory this weekend at Ealing Trailfinders.
With three wins from three, Toulouse Olympique are looking for another strong showing as they face a difficult trip to Whitehaven on Sunday afternoon. Sylvain Houles’ team have maintained their fine attacking form this season having already crossed for 106 points in their three Championship outings thus far. As for Whitehaven, they are aiming to earn their first points of the season.
York City Knights will be hoping their Challenge Cup victory last week will see a turn of fortunes in the league as they look to notch their first win of the season on the road against Halifax. Simon Grix’s side were beaten 16-18 by Dewsbury in their last Championship outing but failed to beat the Knights last season.
Elsewhere, Oldham welcome the visit of Bradford as they look to make it consecutive Championship wins while the Bulls are currently winless in the league and Sheffield make the trip to Batley with the Eagles still in search of their first Championship victory of 2020.
