Betfred Championship round-up

London Broncos made a winning start to life back in the Betfred Championship as they held off a late fightback to beat Bradford Bulls 18-14.

Tries from Guy Armitage and Robert Butler put the Broncos, relegated from the Betfred Super League last season, 12-0 up at half-time.

Matty Dawson-Jones pulled one back but Josh Walters' try and Kieran Dixon's third conversion restored the cushion. Thomas Doyle and Dawson-Jones cut the deficit but only one of the Bulls' three tries was converted by Jordan Lilley, a statistic which proved decisive.

Late tries from James Saltonstall and Ollie Roberts gave Halifax a dramatic 18-17 win over Sheffield Eagles.

Tries from Ryan Millar, Robbie Ward and Joel Farrell and two conversions and a drop goal from Izaac Farrell looked to have put Sheffield in control but Saltonstall and Roberts, in the final six minutes, added to earlier scores from Conor McGrath and Steve Tyrer to snatch victory.

Widnes Vikings top the early table after a 36-6 win over Oldham with two tries from Jack Johnson.

Jake Spedding, Jack Owens, Shane Grady, Deon Cross and Sam Wilde also crossed with Owens adding four conversions. James Beckett scored Oldham's try.

Leigh Centurions won 36-10 at Dewsbury Rams, Ben Reynolds with a try and six conversions.

Josh Woods, Cameron Scott, Ben Hellewell, Iain Thornley and Adam Higson scored the other tries while Adam Ryder crossed for the hosts.

Dane Chisholm scored two tries and 22 points in total as Featherstone Rovers won 38-18 at Batley Bulldogs.

Greg Worthington, Luke Briscoe, Josh Hardcastle and James Harrison also crossed for Rovers while Batley's tries came from Lewis Galbraith, Alistair Leak and Lucas Walshaw, all converted by Dale Morton.

Toulouse Olympique XIII won 22-10 against York City Knights despite having Lloyd White sent off while trailing 10-6.

Will Sharp and Marcus Stock had put York in front, Joe Bretherton with the French side's try, when White was adjudged to have kicked an opposing player in the face.

Nevertheless Paul Marcon, Paterika Vaivai and Junior Vaivai scored tries and Mark Kheirallah finished with three conversions.

Lewis Hatton and Mike Butt scored Swinton Lions' tries in a 14-0 win over Whitehaven, Jack Hansen kicking six points.
