The Sportsman to begin their Betfred League One coverage

The Sportsman to begin their Betfred League One coverage

The Sportsman will launch their coverage of Betfred League One this Sunday, with a meeting of two of the opening round winners – and a repeat of one of the most dramatic matches at any level in 2021.

Doncaster claimed an unlikely 28-26 win against Keighley Cougars in a sudden death Play-Off last September, coming from 26-12 behind with 20 minutes remaining to keep their season alive – and break Keighley’s hearts – when Jake Sweeting converted Liam Johnson’s try from near the touchline.

The Cougars have since appointed Andrew Henderson as their Head of Rugby to work with Head Coach Rhys Lovegrove as a signal of their determination to secure promotion to the Betfred Championship.

They made an impressive start with a comfortable 32-6 win at Oldham on the opening weekend, but Doncaster also pleased their head coach Richard Horne by coming from 10-0 down against newboys Midlands Hurricanes to run in eight tries in a 48-20 win at the Eco-Power Stadium.

The Sportsman are covering more Rugby League than ever in 2021, and their main focus so far has been on the Betfred Challenge Cup, with exclusive free coverage of a number of exciting ties – including a memorable occasion at Whitehaven last Saturday for the visit of the Cup holders St Helens.

That means there will be more Betfred League One fixtures than ever for Rugby League fans to watch in 2022, and this weekend the RFL’s Our League web and app follows coverage of Keighley’s opening win at Oldham with a trip to the North Wales coast on Saturday evening - to focus on the debut of the new Cornwall club against Anthony Murray’s Crusaders.
