Eribe Doro outjumped Kevin Larroyer to open the scoring and Joe Edge added the extras before scoring a penalty to give the Vikings a 8-0 lead going into the break.
James Salsonstall then dived over the whitewash in the corner before Joe Keyes added the extras and the game was level on 58 minutes when Keyes converted a penalty but Widnes edged in front with 10 minutes to go when Matty Smith scored a drop goal.
