Tommy Makinson scored two tries to help St Helens earn a 28-8 victory over Catalans to kick-start the 2022 Super League season.

In a rematch of the 2021 Grand Final, Catalans' Gil Dudson was sin-binned after he lashed out following a tackle in the first minute.

Fouad Yaha put the Dragons in front but the hosts ran riot with four unanswered tries from James Roby, Lewis Dodd and a Makinson double before the break and debutants Konrad Hurrell and Joey Lussick's second-half tries helped Saints cruise to a convincing win.

Jake Bibby and Liam Marshall each grabbed two tries as Wigan got off to a winning start with a 24-10 triumph over Hull KR.

Bibby's first came after Rovers debutant Sam Wood spilled a high kick but Mikey Lewis got the visitors back into the game shortly after. But Jai Field put the Warriors back in front before Marshall and Bibby extended their lead.

Marshall's second came after a penalty before Matt Parcell registered a consolation for Rovers.

Salford's Marc Sneyd kicked seven goals against former club Castleford to help his side secure a 26-16 victory.

George Griffin put the hosts in front before Ken Sio levelled things up and Derrell Olpherts regained the Tigers' advantage but two quick-fire tries from King Vuniyayawa and Deon Cross gave Salford a 20-10 lead going into the interval.

Olpherts scored while the Tigers were down to 12 men, Bureta Faraimo having been sin-binned for foul play, but Sneyd's three unanswered penalties secured a 10-point success.

Huddersfield came from behind to beat Toulouse 42-14 in their first game in Super League.

The French side had a dream start when they raced into a 10-0 lead thanks to tries from Matty Russell and Ilias Bergal.

The Giants got back on level terms with scores from Luke Yates and Innes Senior and then hammered home their advantage with tries from Wardle again, Oliver Ashall-Bott, Chris McQueen, Louis Senior before a late consolation try from Toulouse's Guy Armitage.

Warrington snatched victory late on against the 12 men of Leeds, running out 22-20 winners at Headingley.

The Wolves went ahead on 12 minutes through Gareth Widdop and things were made harder when James Bentley was sent off for a high tackle on Widdop.

Zane Tevetano and Matt Prior gave Rhinos a lead before Josh Charnley reduced the deficit but winger Ash Handley scored following a superb kick from Kruise Leeming.

Charnley then crossed for his second before Connor Wrench grabbed the crucial score six minutes from time.

Hull came out on top 16-12 at Wakefield despite playing the last 15 minutes with 12 men.

The visitors opened the scoring on 11 minutes when Luke Gale finished after Adam Swift was set free but Corey Hall levelled things up just before the break.

Joe Lovodua and Darnell McIntosh gave Hull a 10-point advantage but Jake Connor was given a red card following a high tackle and Tom Johnstone's late try was not enough to rescue anything from the game.
