Featherstone Rovers recorded an eye-catching 22-18 win at home to Wakefield Trinity as they prepared for next week's Betfred Championship kick off in style.

With both sides close to full strength, it was Rovers who started on top - Josh Hardcastle scoring after a scorching Luke Briscoe break.

Tom Johnstone struck back for Trinity, Max Jowitt converting, before Craig Hall converted a Craig Kopczak try for a 10-6 lead.

Hall then scored himself and converted with half an hour played to make it 16-6 to the hosts.

Jowitt converted a Corey Hall try later in the first period but the hosts still led 16-12 at the break.

Soon after the restart, Morgan Smith bagged a try for Featherstone, Hall kicking his third goal of the afternoon, as they led by 10.

Though James Batchelor replied almost immediately for Wakefield, Jowitt with the goal, they still trailed by four going into the final quarter.

And that's how it stayed as defences stayed on top and the Betfred Championship outfit claimed the bragging rights.

Elsewhere, a crowd of 7,237 turned out to see Bradford Bulls and Leeds Rhinos do battle at Odsal, the Rhinos running out 30-12 winners.

The Bulls led 12-0 at half time thanks to tries from Kieran Gill and Rhys Evans, Dec Patton kicking both conversions.

But the young Rhinos side, who handed a start to Jack Walker at full back - his first appearance since November 2020 - turned the game around in the second period.

First Alex Mellor, then Jarrod O'Connor struck back for the Rhinos. And two Rhyse Martin goals made it 12-all.

Despite a raft of Rhinos changes late in the game, the visitors continued to dominate.

Liam Tindall, Max Simpson (2) and Kai Morgan ensured the visitors overturned a 12-0 half time deficit to win 30-12 away from home.

In Sunday's other pre-season matches, Huddersfield Giants recorded a 50-6 home with over Batley Bulldogs, Doncaster were beaten 66-18 by Castleford Tigers on home turf and it was a 42-12 win at Newcastle Thunder for Wigan Warriors.

Finally, League 1's Swinton Lions sprung something of a surprise in beating Championship side Whitehaven 28-22 on home turf.
