Hunslet Club Parkside power to Trophy success

Hunslet Club Parkside power to Trophy success

Hunslet Club Parkside enjoyed a stellar afternoon in Batley as they claimed the Challenge Trophy title for the first time on Saturday.

Parkside, beaten finalists in the competition last year, were on top from the outset and never looked back after Craig McShane's try on the stroke of half time.

Danny Harrison opened the scoring for Hunslet, led on the sidelines by Head Coach and Castleford Tigers star Paul McShane.

That gave the Leeds outfit a 4-0 lead, before full-back McShane dived over just ahead of the interval, Jamie Fields with the goal, to make it 10-0.

St Pats enjoyed a positive start to the second period with long periods of possession, but they couldn't convert their pressure into points as Parkside stood firm, stretching their lead to 12 points thanks to a Andy Hullock penalty.

And Hunslet got their reward soon after as hooker Jamie Bradley got over, Hullock with another goal to make it 18-0 with 15 minutes to play.

The men in green and gold then sealed the win with Jack Kirmond having the final say by scoring the last try of the game with two minutes to go.
