Bradford Bulls win Women's Challenge Cup

Bradford Bulls 50-16 Featherstone Rovers

Bradford Bulls recovered from an early 12-4 deficit to ease to victory in the Women's RL Challenge Cup final at Heworth ARLFC on Sunday.

With over 1,000 vocal fans in attendance, the Bulls picked up their first-ever piece of silverware as they came home in style to win 50-16, scoring 26 second-half points.

The impressive Bradford side kept up their unbeaten record for the season with tries coming from fan favourite Amy Hardcastle (2), skipper Kirsty Moroney (2), young winger Savannah Andrade, Charlotte Booth, Player of the Match Shona Hoyle, Lois Forsell, Lauren Hickey and Jess Courtman, with goals coming from Claire Garner (2) and Courtman (3).

That scoreline looked unlikely early on, as the Bulls were forced to defend their line for long periods as the under-strength Rovers flew out of the blocks in the first quarter.

Rovers' points came from tries by Brogan Churm, Sarah Dunn and all-action winger Kayleigh Bullman, with goals coming from Nat Gilmour (2), sister of former Bulls player Lee.

Meanwhile, a thrilling Challenge Shield final acted as a curtain-raiser to the main event as York City Knights won a tight encounter 26-24 against The Army thanks to a last-minute Natalie Carr try.

The sides were level at 10-all at half time, but the home favourites pulled through.
