England Wheelchair RL announce World Cup squad

The team head out to France for the World Cup next week.

England Wheelchair RL have announced their 12-strong squad and off-field team for the Wheelchair RL World Cup, which will take place in France later this month.

Following an extensive search for players, coaches, support staff and volunteers, Leeds Rhinos boast the most representatives with five players called up.

Meanwhile brothers Jack Brown, captain, and Harry Brown represent Halifax alongside vice captain Wayne Boardman.

Joe Coyd, Adam Barnett and Martin Lane are in the squad from Medway Dragons, while Sebastien Bechara is Catalans Dragons' sole representative.

Martyn Gill and Mark Roughsedge - who helped England to European Championship victory in 2015 and Four Nations success last year - will be Joint Head Coaches, with Lyndsey Northeast as Sports Therapist.

Meanwhile Football & Logistics will again be headed up by Andy Gardner as Team Manager and Martyn Coyd MBE, who stays on as Wheelchair Rugby League Chairman.

Martin Coyd MBE said: "This is tense and exciting and it is a huge privilege to be involved.

"2015 was a magical year. Winning the inaugural European Championships, against France in the final, was special and unexpected by some, but a huge reward for a great effort from the whole team; players, coaches, support staff and the incredible supporters who helped roar the team to victory.

"But the last 16 months have seen standards raised. The things that were good before were no longer good enough - and that helped lead us to the Four Nations title.

"Intensity, conditioning, skills and our game had to go to a much higher level; the coaches have been challenged to test and push our players.

"Attitude will be key and we know what we need to do to be successful."
