Chargers retain Harry Jepson Trophy

Jarrow Vikings no match for South West London.

The South West London Chargers retained the Harry Jepson Trophy with a thumping 64-4 victory over Jarrow Vikings in Sheffield on Saturday.

They became the first club in the history of the competition to win back-to-back Trophies and will qualify for the Rugby League Challenge Cup for the second successive season.

The Chargers, with eight players who featured in last year’s final, dominated from the off.

Tala Petelo opened the scoring with a try, which Tom Lavis converted and this was followed by a hat-trick from Josh Reid. Ben Hird and Tom Poole also touched down and with Lavis converting every one; they led 36-0 at the break.

The Chargers struck first in the second half when Lavis touched down and converted before Jarrow finally opened their account with a try.

However, these were to be their only points and in the final quarter further tries from Joe Briggs, Dan Williams, Reid and Liam McGee plus two conversions from Leon Blacker and one from Lavis wrapped up the victory for the Chargers.

Reid was named Man of the Match.
