Danny Houghton broke the Betfred Super League record for the number of tackles in a single game yesterday afternoon with an incredible 85 tackles against Warrington Wolves.
The Black & Whites and the Wire fought out the very first drawn game of the golden-point era as the sides could not be separated after 10 minutes of extra-team, with the scores remaining at 14-14 at the final hooter.
But despite the tiring extended period, that did not stop the Airlie Birds' co-captain from throwing his body towards the Wolves attacking line, with Houghton surpassing the previous tackling record by another 13 tackles.
Wigan's Morgan Smithies held the previous record with 72 tackles against Salford Red Devils in 2019.
The former Man of Steel winner now features five times in the top ten list of the highest number of tackles in a Super League game, having made over 65 tackles in games twice in 2014, and over 66 tackles in two games in 2017.
Houghton's 85 tackles is also higher than the record number in the NRL, held by Elijah Taylor for 77 for the Panthers against the Cowboys in 2015.
Tackling statistics first began being recorded by Opta in 2003.
The 32-year old is known across the game for his tackling exploits, having been crowned Super League's 'Hit Man' on five separate occasions, clocking the most tackles in a season in 2011, 2013, 2016, 2017 and 2019.
His tackle count was not the only impressive stat for Houghton during the game, having ran an incredible 10.6km in the match too!
The Black & Whites remain undefeated at the start of the 2021 Betfred Super League season following yesterday's result, with Brett Hodgson's side next in action against Wakefield Trinity this Friday at the KCOM Stadium.
