Betfred Challenge Cup Round-Up - Friday 6 February

Betfred Challenge Cup Round-Up - Friday 6 February

Betfred Challenge Cup holders Hull KR began the defence of the trophy on Friday in emphatic style hitting a tonne plus scoreline against the last remaining community club Lock Lane, 0-104.

Jack Broadbent and Harvey Horne were the most prolific scorers with hat-tricks with Tom Davies and Jack Charles scoring doubles.

Jesse Sue, Elliot Minchella, Noah Booth, Karl Lawton, Oliver Gildart, Arthur Mourgue, Tom Whitehead and Jack Brown all opened their tallies for the season in the rout. Rhyse Martin successfully kicked 16 goals.

Thirteen-time Betfred Challenge Cup winners St Helens narrowly missed out on a century in Round Three as they saw off Workington Town 2-98.

Paul Rowley’s side did fall behind to an early penalty however 16 unanswered tries followed. New signing Jackson Hastings racked up an individual haul of 36 points notching two tries and kicking 14 goals.

Kyle Feldt and Tristan Sailor both crossed for hat-tricks whilst there was a brace for Jack Welsby and a sole try for Deon Cross. Off-season addition David Klemmer also crashed over with fellow forwards Shane Wright, Matt Whitley, Alex Walmsley and George Delaney were also on the scoresheet.

The only downside for the visitors was captain Matty Lees leaving the field early through injury.

Sheffield Eagles only trailed by ten points against Warrington Wolves at the interval, but the Betfred Super League side pulled away in the second half.

Toby King, Cai Taylor-Wray and Josh Thewlis scored for the Wolves, but a first half Kai Morgan effort gave the Eagles hope. Sam Burgess side would eventually show their quality as Taylor-Wray doubled his account before tries from Albert Hopoate and Tommy Rhodes.

Huddersfield Giants were the first team into Round 4 following their 6-52 victory at Hunslet.

The Giants raced into a 0-30 lead at the break thanks to scores for Chris Patolo, George Flanagan Jr, Tui Lolohea, Sam Halsall, Jacob Gagai and Adam Swift.

Huddersfield’s dominance continued in the second half with Tom Burgess, Asher O’Donnell and Tristan Powell scoring alongside Lolohea’s second of the evening. Bailey Alridge’s effort midway through the second half ensured Hunslet didn’t go home empty handed.

Finally, five-time winners Hull FC sealed their Fourth-Round berth with a 0-60 win at Salford. The Black and Whites led 0-22 at half-time thanks to Yusuf Aydin, Davy Litten, Amir Bourouh and Harvey Barron.

Litten would go over twice more completing a hat-trick after the interval with Cade Cust scoring twice either side of Joe Batchelor’s effort. Jake Arthur rounded off the scoring with seven minutes remaining.
