30 young female Rugby League players from 11 clubs have been chosen to take part in England Rugby League’s Diploma in Sporting Excellence (DiSE) for 2022-2024.

DiSE is the first step on the England Performance Pathway, a national programme for year 12 and 13 girls who have the potential to play at the highest level of the game – representing England Rugby League with the newly-formed female Knights or the Women’s senior team.

The group will meet for the first time for an overnight camp at Woodhouse Grove School in Apperley Bridge in October, in what will be their first opportunity as players to experience the Rugby League environment that only a national programme can offer.

The Rugby Football League’s DiSE Manager, Conor Meese, says: “We’re delighted to have selected our DiSE cohort for the next two years. There are some really talented young players amongst the group who are definitely showing signs that they could progress through the ranks within the Women’s game, and it is our job to help and aid that development.

“The programme is already proving to be a success, with DiSE graduate Keara Bennett having made her international debut earlier this year and now being selected in the England Women’s Rugby League World Cup squad.”
