England Watch: 18 August

In the latest England Watch, St Helens and England full back Jack Welsby made a timely return to action this weekend with just over two months to go until the first ABK Beer Rugby League Ashes Test at Wembley.

Welsby featured for the first time since suffering a knee injury back in May and managed 30 minutes against the Giants after being named on the bench on his return from injury.

Elsewhere in Betfred Super League, a Jez Litten inspired Hull KR earned a hard-fought victory away at Wigan to edge one step closer to lifting the League Leaders’ Shield.

Litten was awarded Player of the Match for his no-nonsense, 80-minute display at hooker in front of an onlooking Shaun Wane. Will Litten make Wane’s 24-man squad this Autumn?

Rhinos duo Ash Handley and Harry Newman were both on the scoresheet during their sides thumping of West Yorkshire rivals Castleford, while England skipper George Williams set up a try in Warrington’s comeback win against Catalans on Thursday.

In the NRL, England forward Victor Radley has been pivotal to the Sydney Roosters late charge for the Finals. The Roosters have won their last three, including their most recent victory against the third placed Bulldogs, to force their way into the top eight with three games remaining.

Then, Morgan Smithies and the Canberra Raiders are on track to win the 2025 NRL Minor Premiership. The Green Machine are top of the ladder and could defy the odds to finish top of the tree at the end of the regular season as they look to make reach their first Grand Final since 2019.

Rivalries will be reignited when England take on Australia in the ABK Beer Rugby League Ashes this autumn. The two nations will meet in a three-match test series over 20 years in the making and with the second and third test completely SOLD OUT; Wembley Stadium on Saturday 25 October is your only place to watch this fierce rivalry live!
