Report: West Hull 54-6 Thatto Heath Crusaders

The fifth instalment of National Conference League coverage on Our League at the weekend pitted the top two of the Premier Division against each other and by the end of eighty minutes leaders West Hull walked tall after running ten tries past their undermanned visitors.

A good game looked in prospect as West Hull started at pace but the first points went the way of Thatto after Harry Reardon intercepted fifteen metres from his own line and ran down the ground. Jack Jones missed the goal and West Hull equalised a few minutes later when outstanding hooker Nathan Powley tore out of dummy half and galloped in from twenty-five metres for prop Ryan Wilson to goal.

A penalty at the other end was converted by Jones to lock the sides up at 6-6 and the crowd waited until the 20th minute for the next points when Ryan Steen scored by the posts and Wilson goaled. A clinical passing movement on the left was touched down by Matt Kingdom after 28 minutes to put further distance between the teams before a flashpoint confrontation on the stroke of halftime saw Jamie Holroyd sent off for punching and Benn Arbon given a yellow card for provoking him.

The first ten minutes of the second half went from end to end, but it was Wests that quickly took charge when restored to full compliment.

First Wilson stepped into the backfield before surging over for a try, converting to make it 22-6 after 51 minutes.

Next came a great try with some eye-catching interplay before Tom Burke angled back to the posts and Wilson was on target again.

This sparked a golden ten minutes that also brought tries for top scorer Arbon, Luke Moss and Jansin Turgut as West Hull impressively cut loose.

The loss of Ryan Houghton, Sean Leicester and Cameron McCabe to injury in the first half cut Thatto deep and without interchange options, they could not go with their hosts.

Youngsters Robbie Jones and Jack Donkin impressed in the last twenty minutes, Donkin nudging over three goals and picking up the penultimate try before Elliott Jones had to beat a determined Tom Mitchell three times after another long-range raid in the last minute to take the league leaders past fifty points.

Elsewhere in the Premier Division Egremont Rangers had a thumping home win over Thornhill Trojans, Hunslet Club Parkside continued their pursuit of a top-four finish at the expense of Rochdale Mayfield, York Acorn sprung a surprise on Leigh Miners Rangers, Lock Lane won a low scoring clash against Wath Brow Hornets and Siddal were ultimately comfortable winners at Pilkington Recs.

In Division One Featherstone Lions claimed a narrow victory over Myton Warriors while Hull Dockers won at Milford. Ince Rose Bridge were in the points at Saddleworth and Kells won an excellent game at Skirlaugh, there were also big wins for West Bowling over Oulton Raiders and Wigan St Pats against Stanningley.

Crosfields won at Beverley in Division Two with perhaps the stand-out result of the season going the way of Dewsbury Celtic who were magnificent in defeating league leaders Heworth. An exciting game also played out at Dewsbury Moor where the Maroons and Clock Face Miners fought out a draw while Normanton's play-off charge gathered pace with an impressive win over Barrow Island. Wigan St Judes claimed a notable win over Hunslet Warriors while Woolston Rovers held off a spirited effort from Bradford Dudley Hill.

East Leeds grabbed a hard-fought win over spirited Leigh East in Division Three while there were also wins for Seaton at Drighlington, Waterhead Warriors who topped fifty points at Eastmoor Dragons, Oldham St Annes over Millom and a big result came in Hensingham as they won a thriller against Bentley.
