Wigan Warriors successfully defended their Acedemy Under-19s title after beating Leeds Rhinos Under-19s 14-6 at the DW Stadium on Friday evening.
It was a tight first half, with Wigan going ahead through Sam Grant, although Rob Burrow’s Leeds side hit back through Alex Sutcliffe’s converted try to lead 6-4 at the break.
However, a superb finish from winger James Worthington on 54 minutes edged Warriors back in front by two points.
The game continued to hang in the balance until Warriors struck a fatal blow on 75 minutes when Sam Halsall completed a brilliant team move before Harry Smith kicked the extra two to give his side the victory.
Darrell Goulding’s side were able to lift the trophy in front of their home fans, ahead of the Betfred Super League clash between Wigan and Hull FC.
