Tickets are now on sale for the headline match of the opening round of the 2022 Betfred Championship season when York City Knights host Featherstone Rovers on Monday 31st January 2022 (7:45pm KO).
Taking place at the state-of-the-art LNER Community Stadium in the Minster City, the Knights will be keen to start the new campaign with a bang against rivals Featherstone Rovers with several tantalising encounters between the two taking place in recent years.
The Knights secured a Championship Play-Off spot with a victory over Featherstone at Bootham Crescent in Summer 2019 while the two took to the field for a memorable AB Sundecks 1895 Cup final at the iconic Wembley Stadium in July with the West Yorkshiremen triumphing 41-34 at the national stadium.
Both teams have recruited well in the off-season, with powerhouse recruits Pauli Pauli and Joey Leilua joining the Knights and Rovers respectively - an on-field battle that fans will no doubt be keen to see on the pitch!
Experienced half-back Jamie Ellis, formerly of Castleford Tigers, Hull KR and Leigh Centurions, has joined James Ford’s much-changed side, with familiar faces Liam Harris and Will Oakes also returning.
Ford, himself, has signed a new long-term deal with the club he passed a decade of service with earlier in 2021 and will be keen to test himself against the most successful Head Coach in Betfred Super League history with Brian McDermott taking the helm at Featherstone.
Rovers have brought in former York half-back Morgan Smith as well as full-back Brandon Pickersgill from Bradford Bulls while former fans' favourite Luke Briscoe has returned to the club he was such a free-scoring force for between 2016 and 2018.
The Knights have launched a special Monday night price with tickets available for just £10 for adults, £5 for concessions (17-21 years old and 65+ years old) with under-16s continuing to go free as York look to showcase the competition to the Premier Sports cameras for the first time as part of the new broadcast deal, and tickets are available direct from the York Stadium Management Company Ticket Office at yorkcityknights.com/tickets or 01904 942232.
Featherstone Rovers have been given an allocation to sell to their fans and tickets bought from Featherstone will be situated behind the sticks in the North Stand.
Featherstone fans can buy online from the York Stadium Management Company Ticket Office, but they would be located in the LNER Azuma (East) Stand.
