Joe Furlong put in a Man of the Match performance as Liverpool John Moores University claimed their first piece of silverware in five years, romping to a clinical 56-12 win over Cardiff Met University on Wednesday to win the BUCS Trophy.
Jack Bond set the tone as he broke the deadlock early on, Aled Davies kicking the first of five goals.
Phil McGroughlin led the way with a first-half hat trick, while Furlong scored this effort to put LJMU on the front foot:

Dafydd Green kicked a late penalty goal for Cardiff Met as LJMU led 28-2 at the break.
The Welshmen started the second half well, but couldn't break down the stubborn LJMU defence and they were rewarded for their work without the ball as Furlong grabbed his second soon after.
Alex Smith, who kicked two goals, and Ryan Taylor also got on the scoresheet as LJMU pulled clear before James McDaid went in.
At 50-2, Cardiff enjoyed something of a resurgence with back-to-back tries from Angus Ramsey and Oscar Wong, who caught th eye with this finish:

But, fittingly, it was Furlong who had the final say as he strolled over to complete his hat trick late on, Davies converting to complete the scoring.
