Coach Developer

Location: Nationwide

Reports to: National Player Development Manager


Support a network of coaches that deliver age and stage specific content aligned to the RFL National Player Development Framework & England Talent Pathway (ETP).

Provide Rugby League Coaches with the knowledge, resources and support to improve their coaching skills.


  • Attend RFL/UK Coaching 2-day workshop.
  • Support three Community Coaches each with 20 hours of informal and formal input.
  • Respond to coaches’ needs and the context in which they operate by providing and facilitating a range of formal and non-formal learning opportunities.
  • Synthesize the input of more experienced coaches and experts, assess coaches and encourage them to take responsibility for their ongoing development.
  • Model best practice, portray a growth mind set, use critical reflective skills and demonstrate a desire for personal improvement.
  • Help coaches to become ‘learning coaches’ by teaching them how to learn and reflect.
  • Attend 3 meetings per year with Regional Senior Coach Developer to update on the programme and share learning.
  • Provide Feedback at the end of the programme as part of review process.


  • Compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act, with specific responsibility for the health safety and welfare of all personnel within their control including themselves and for ensuring the overall safe and compliant planning, implementation and monitoring of all activities.
  • Reports all accidents and/or incidents and near misses in accordance with RFL procedures.

  • To encourage and support the development of the sport at all levels, through increased participation, revenue generation and ticket sales to maintain organisational sustainability.

  • Ability to work with diverse stakeholders, and to influence those stakeholders to move towards best practice and the joined-up delivery of key programmes of work.
  • Ability to build rapport and trust quickly developing positive relationships and networks
  • Highly effective questioning and discussion techniques
  • Able to support the process of development planning including regular goal setting & review.
  • Finely tuned observation and analysis skills
  • Worked within sport and/or education settings as a coach or teacher 
  • A modern, progressive approach to learning and development.
  • Passionate about making a difference for coaches and coaching
  • Have the ability to focus on delivery against strict timelines as well as the experience to plan and manage multi, complex projects and work using your own initiative.


  • Communication delivery experience.
  • UKCC Level 3 (any sport)
  • Relevant Undergraduate Degree.
  • Experience of using digital learning and communication tools.



  • Knowledge of the community rugby league sporting landscape.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the talent pathway for Rugby League
  • Knowledge of the RFL Coach Education offers available

England Talent Pathway Coach Developers (Multiple Roles)

Remuneration: £1200 Contract for 60 hours over the year – flexible

Exciting opportunities are available to work as a Coach Developer for the RFL. The programme is entering year 2 and is looking to expand on the successes of the first cohort by increasing the number of Coach Developers and the geographical spread of the scheme

We are seeking to appoint motivated, and driven people to support a network of coaches that deliver age (U12 – U16) and stage specific content aligned to the Rugby Football League National Player Development Framework.

Full training will be provided through UK Coaching workshops to prepare Coach Developers, to each successfully support three community coaches, helping to provide the framework for their improvement and progression. 

We welcome applicants who have a passion for developing people who are not necessarily from a sporting or rugby league background.
