The openers of the Challenge Cup Quarter finals recently played each other on another big stage at the Betfred Super League Magic Weekend, with the Red Devils triumphing over the Robins 16-26. Marc Sneyd is on an eleven-game scoring run when facing the Robins. Sneyd, formerly of Hull FC, could play a big part for Salford as he will be looking for his twelfth scoring return against the Robins.
The Robins have won seven of the last ten meetings with the Red Devils although an injury-plagued Robins will be without a number of their regular first-team players including Lachlan Coote, Jordan Abdull and Sam Wood, contrastingly the Red Devils have players 1 through 16 available, except England international, Andy Ackers. Although Red Devils head coach Paul Rowley is not writing the Robins off "No matter who they’ve got missing, they’ve got plenty in reserve. From 1-17, they’ll all be strong."
Hull FC v St Helens (Saturday 2:30PM) - BBC One - MKM Stadium
St Helens will be looking to register their 16th win in a row against the Black & Whites with a strong record when visiting the MKM Stadium, the last time the Saints registered a loss when travelling to Hull FC was 10 March 2017 when the home side won 24-14.
Hull FC will be without their half-back Jake Clifford who failed his head injury assessment in Round 15 of the Betfred Super League, whilst St Helens have named a strong 21-man squad to travel to Yorkshire which is unchanged squad from the teams Super League victory against the Warriors.
If Tongan international Konrad Hurrell can cross the whitewash twice in the quarter-final he will reach 100 tries for his career. The last time these two teams faced off in Round 5 of the Betfred Super League Jon Bennison scored a brace in a 20-12 victory.
Wigan Warriors v Warrington Wolves (Sunday 2:30PM) - BBC One - DW Stadium
The reigning Challenge Cup holders will host local rivals Warrington on the BBC this Sunday. Both teams have seen a dip in form since they started their 2023 Super League campaigns strongly but in a Challenge Cup quarter-final, anything can happen. The two teams are sitting at second and sixth on the Betfred Super League table although the Warriors have secured a win over the Wolves earlier in the season and have won the last three of their meetings.
Warriors Coach Matt Peet knows the Wolves are a threat to going back-to-back in the Challenge Cup in his pre-match press conference he noted "Their obvious threats are their massive forward pack, their powerful middle and their fast runners. They have a good balance." however his side will be focused on getting back to their best form "We know Warrington's threats, but our main focus is getting back to our best. The most important thing is that we improve our own performance before we start looking at Warrington."
The Wolves knocked the Warriors out in the sixth Round of the 2019 Challenge Cup on their way to winning the competition. Two of the powerhouses of the competition have lifted the cup 20 and 9 times respectively although they have only met in the final once in 1990 when the Warriors were victorious.
York Knights v Leigh Leopard (Sunday 5PM) - Viaplay Sports 1 - LNER Community Stadium
It has been over 102 years of Challenge Cup history since the York Knights last faced Leigh in a Challenge Cup match-up, in their three previous cup meetings York has only managed to come up with a draw and two losses (1921 RD1 Replay York 0 - 3 Leigh, 1921 RD1 Leigh 0 - 0 York, 1908 Round 2 Leigh 16 - 11 York)
The newly promoted Leopards have been flying in the Betfred Super League currently sitting at third on the table, with historic wins over York including a 100-4 victory in 2022, the Leopards will head into this match heavy favourites.
Ed Chamberlain will be looking to continue his form against the York Knights, the centre scored every time in 2022 when his side faced York and the newly promoted side will be looking to continue this trend.
Andrew Henderson's York side will be looking for some cup magic. The Knights have defeated Sheffield Eagles and London Broncos, both at the LNER Community Stadium and they will be looking for that cup run to continue.
