Hull KR sign the Muslim Athlete Charter

Hull Kingston Rovers have become the latest professional Rugby League club to demonstrate its commitment to equality and diversity for all, after both the club and the Hull KR Foundation signed the Muslim Athlete Charter.

The charter is a commitment and start to recognising Muslim needs in the sport and forms an integral part of Rovers’ wider work around equality and diversity.

Rovers’ support of the Nujum Sports Muslim Athlete Charter will help the club strengthen its voice and zero tolerance towards any form of discrimination.

Hull KR Chief Executive, Paul Lakin said: “We believe signing the Muslim Athletes Charter is a positive step for Hull KR and one fully supported by the club.

“As rugby league contines to grow, this is an important initiative in further understanding the Muslim faith and the cultural needs of Muslim players, coaches and fans.”

Hull KR Foundation CEO, Craig Shepherd added: “Hull KR Foundation are delighted to announce our unwavering commitment to the Muslim Athletes Charter, signifying our dedication to providing enhanced support for our esteemed friends of the Muslim faith. 

“By aligning ourselves with this important initiative, we aim to create an environment that embraces diversity, inclusivity, and equality within the realm of sports.

“We are proud to embark on this journey and look forward to working hand in hand with the Muslim community to promote harmony, unity, and excellence in all sporting endeavours associated with Hull KR Foundation.”

On signing the charter, CEO and Founder of Nujum Sports, Ebadur Rahman said: “Having signed the pledge, Hull KR and Hull KR Foundation are joining a positive movement of solidarity and equality, recognising the contribution Muslims make within the club and the local community.”

Alongside the RFL, Rovers are the latest club to sign the charter as a demonstration of their commitment to inclusion in the city. Clubs across Rugby League are joining a joining a positive movement of solidarity, equality and recognition of the contribution Muslims make.
