With the clocks going forward a few weeks ago, it means two things – British Summertime is here, and the start of the Try Tag Rugby Early Summer Leagues is nearly upon us!
Try Tag Rugby’s Early Summer Leagues, in partnership with the RFL, kick off next week across the UK from April 24 and there is still time to register.
Over 70 leagues will be taking place this summer across the following locations: Brighton & Hove, Bradford, Bristol, Coventry, Edinburgh, Halifax, Leamington Spa, Leeds, Leigh, London, Maidenhead, Manchester, Oxford, Reading, Rugby, Salford, Sheffield, Wakefield and Wigan.
With many leagues having closing dates for entry this week any individuals or teams interested in taking part are encouraged to visit the Try Tag Rugby website here. Places are filling up fast with some leagues already full or close to filling up.
Try Tag Rugby Early Summer Leagues are:
- Rugby League minus the physical contact. Tackles are made by removing a tag from the player in possession of the ball.
- For adults and teenagers aged 14+
- Open to all, no experience is necessary, all abilities and experience levels are welcome. There are different standard leagues to suit everybody from complete beginners right up to experienced players. All new players are given a briefing on the rules before their first game.
- Mostly 7-a-side with mixed gender teams (minimum 3 females on the pitch). Men’s and Women’s only leagues also take place in London and Leeds.
- 7 to 10 weeks long and teams play one 40-minute game each week. No training is required, you just turn up and play – so it’s perfect for busy lives!
- Held on weekday evenings or weekends and are followed by weekly after match socials in a nearby pub/clubhouse.
Carl Duckels, National Licensing Director of Try Tag Rugby says:
“In the run up to the start of the Leagues next week, it’s been fantastic to have hundreds of new people come along to our Free Taster Sessions and give Tag Rugby a try. If anybody has missed the sessions, then there are still a few more this week and next. You can also sign straight up to a league.
“One of the great things about Tag Rugby League is that nearly everybody can play. The rules are very similar to contact Rugby League, but tagging instead of tackling enables players of all genders, ages and experience levels, including complete beginners, to get involved.
“We expect to have over 10,000 people playing weekly across the UK when our Early Summer Leagues start next week, and we can’t wait for the leagues to get started. “
