Ten years ago, no rugby was being played at Corpus Christi with football being the dominant sport. However, over the last five years, real progress has been made in Rugby League.

According to coach James Endersby, historically few teams from Leeds have made it through to the finals because the talent pool is spread across the schools. However, Corpus Christi have a good strong squad who are hoping to lift the title.

He said: "Previously I think only two or three Leeds schools have made it through to the Finals because the talent pool is usually spread quite thinly but we've got a strong cohort this year, we're a big physical team.

"All of our lads have come through in the last six to 12 months in terms of joining outside clubs," said James.

"They also train with the Rhinos Foundation under Ian Hardman, which is fantastic."

But James is under no illusions that their opponents, Castleford Academy, who claimed the Year 7 Boys title at Wembley last year, present a big challenge.

"They are a bit of a nemesis for us," he said.

"They beat us in the last five minutes of the Year 7 National semi final last year to get to Wembley and beat us in the Yorkshire Cup final this year.

"A lot of our lads play for a team called Irish Clovers in East Leeds and they know a lot of Cas team. Irish Clovers beat Castleford Lock Lane in a final recently - it's always a good, competitive game against Cas."

So which players should we look out for?

"Lucas Green is our strong ball carrier and captain Rocco is a very good player who will be playing full back for us in the final.

"This team is mainly run by Tom Wandless, he's been the driving force with help from myself. It means a lot to the school and we've got support from all the staff and all the other students. Everyone is very proud of them."
