Pre-Season Friendlies Preview (1-2 February)

It's just two weeks to go until the start of the Betfred Super League and Betfred Championship campaigns, which means plenty more pre-season friendlies!

And as well as the Preliminary Round One ties of the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup taking place this weekend, fans can see a number of their teams in pre-season action….

First, Castleford Tigers will face Hull FC in Joe Westerman’s Testimonial game on Saturday (K.O. 3pm).

Westerman started his career out at the Tigers before spending a total of eight years with the Black & Whites in two separate spells.

He returned to Castleford, who are his hometown club, in 2022.

Two teams close to his heart, the 35-year-old will look to celebrate his 17-year long career in this weekend’s fixture, with the Tigers hoping they can improve on last week’s disappointing performance against Wakefield Trinity.

Castleford were defeated 32-8 last week's pre-season friendly against their nearest and dearest, so we should expect an interesting encounter when they take on a fresh-looking Hull FC, who will be led by John Cartwright for the first time.

Meanwhile, it’s Toby King’s Testimonial game as Warrington Wolves host Leigh Leopards (K.O. 5.30pm).

It will be a special evening at The Halliwell Jones Stadium as the Wolves look to honour King, who celebrates reaching a total of ten years at the club.

Two strong sides have been named, which will be a great taste of what to expect in the Super League, as two of last year’s top six come up against one another.

There’s also a mouthwatering clash in Perpignan between Catalans Dragons and Toulouse Olympique on Saturday afternoon (K.O. 3pm), while Featherstone Rovers host Huddersfield Giants (K.O. 3pm).

Finally, on Sunday, Dewsbury Rams meet with Bradford Bulls in their final runouts ahead of the brand new seasons.
