Betfred Championship Round-Up | Round Seven

Featherstone extended their lead to four points at the top of the Betfred Championship.

Sean Long’s side kept their 100% record in the league with a home victory over York Knights in Round Seven.

Rovers took a 14-0 lead at the break, which included a first Featherstone try for Elijah Taylor.

Featherstone continued their dominance in the second half. Gareth Gale completed a second half hat-trick, which puts him into the lead of the top scorer standings in the Championship.

Joey Leilua completed the 46-4 victory with a try three minutes from the end.

On Saturday, third placed Sheffield Eagles produced a huge performance to defeat Toulouse.

Jesse Sene-Lefao; Vila Halafhi, Anthony Thackeray, Ben Jones-Bishop and Jason Bass all touched down as the Eagles raced into a 26-0 half-time lead.

Matthieu Jussaume struck back, but an Oliver Roberts try halted the visitors’ momentum.

Barrow Raiders recorded their first victory of the 2023 league season, with a 16-12 home success over Halifax Panthers.

The sides were locked together at 10 all as the sides headed back to the changing rooms.

A Joe Keyes penalty put the Panthers ahead. However, experience half-back, Jarrod Sammut, scored a decisive try in the 16-12 home win.

Keighley Cougars secured the bragging rights in the ‘Battle of Bradford’.

A red-hot Cougars side scored four first half tries to give them a 24-0 lead at the break.

Charlie Graham added a further score just after the hour mark to extent the Keighley lead.

Bradford responded with a consolation try, but Robbie Storey had the final say in the 34-6 win for the hosts.

In the capital, London Broncos came from behind to defeat Swinton Lions.

The Lions took an early lead through Josh Eaves, but Dean Parata stuck back just over ten minutes later.

A penalty from Nick Gregson before the break, put the Lions into an 8-6 lead.

Paul Ulberg and Jarred Bassett gave the Broncos put London ahead. Despite their best efforts, Swinton struck back but were unable to regain the lead.

Batley Bulldogs defeated Whitehaven in a closely fought contest.

Marcus O’Brien gave Haven a lead, but tries from Alistair Leak and Elliot Kear put the Bulldogs ahead at half-time.

Lucas Walshaw extended the Batley advantage. Despite tries from James Newton and Curtis Teare, Whitehaven were unable to get the two league points.

Widnes moved up to fourth in the table with a home victory over bottom place, Newcastle Thunder.

Joe Edge, Kieran Dixon, Sam Wilde and Joe Lyons put Widnes ahead 24-0 late into the second half.

Danny Craven was sin-binned with six minutes to and and Newcastle capitalised. Jay Chapelhow, Mitch Clark and Alex Foster all scored inside the final five minutes.
