Vacancy | England Community Lions PDRL – Voluntary Head Coach

We are looking for a coach who holds a current RFL coaching licence. The coach should have a good understanding of the Physical Disability Rugby League competition and structures, also current or previous experience in coaching Physical Disability Rugby League would be desirable. 

The role of the head coach is to, effectively and efficiently, develop the team and individual athletes and to help create a positive, responsive, and productive environment. 

Salary: Volunteer

Term: 2- year post

Location: Various locations predominantly in the North of England

Purpose of the Role

  • To support the development of all aspects of the England Community Lions PDRL Squad.
  • Lead the planning, preparation and coaching of the England Community Lions PDRL team throughout the programme of activity.
  • Coaching delivery in accordance with the structures and procedures established by the RFL.

 

Principal Duties and Activities

·         To direct the implementation of the planned squad programme.

·         Participate in all management meetings.

·         Attendance at key fixtures throughout the season within the regions 

·         Collate all relevant information for selection meetings.

·         Direct the planning, implementation and review of the technical & tactical preparation of the team.

·         Ensure the RFL Player Pathway values and codes of conduct are followed by players.

·         Promote, wherever possible, the profile of Player & Coach Pathway, the team members and the game of Rugby League as a whole.

·         Direct the organisation of team training sessions including facilities, equipment and resources.

·         Remain aware and take responsibility for players’ performance, fitness and welfare.

·         Remain aware and take responsibility for players’ technical, tactical, physical and mental preparation in addition to their pastoral welfare and individual needs.

·         Ensure the needs of the players are being met through regular monitoring and evaluation of the programme, adapting as necessary.

·         Maintain a good working relationship with all key personnel, colleagues and players as well as outside organisations in order to support and promote the team’s needs.

·         At all times during the agreement to exercise due skill, care and diligence in delivering the services.

·         Avail yourself to the RFL at such specific times and at such specific locations as the parties shall mutually agree to. 

·         Carry out all the duties and responsibilities which may reasonably be required to deliver the services to the best of your ability.

·         Undertake such duties as maybe required from time to time as are consistent with the responsibilities of the post and the needs of the RFL.

 

Essential Experience and Specialist Knowledge

  • RFL Licensed Coach
  • Experience of working with representative players.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of talent identification processes.
  • Excellent planning skills.
  • Excellent management and inter-personal skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage a team of coaches, managers and support staff.

 

Desirable Knowledge 

  • Experience of overseas travel with a touring sports squad.
  • Knowledge of the community game at Tiers 3 and 4.
  • A good working knowledge of IT including ability to work with common Microsoft packages.
  • UKCC Level 3 or a commitment to work towards this qualification.
  • Knowledge of computer player assessment IT packages.

 

Education and Training

  • A full, valid driving licence.      
  • Evidence of taking further personal development opportunities.
