Report: Barrow Raiders 18-30 York City Knights

York City Knights recorded a sixth-successive Betfred Championship win with a hard-fought 30-18 victory at Barrow Raiders in Premier Sports' live Monday night match.

Barrow opened the scoring after just six minutes through Anton Iaria, Jarrod Sammut converting for a 6-0 lead.

But York were soon level in a frantic first quarter as Joe Brown intercepted to go over, Liam Harris with the goal.

Will Oakes then put York ahead, but Luke Cresswell got on the end of a clever Sammut kick, he converted and the home side were briefly 12-10 ahead.

Matty Marsh turned the tide with a try on 31 minutes, Harris goaling, before Our League Player of the Match Jordan Thompson went in just before half time. Harris kicked his third goal of the game to leave York 22-12 ahead at the interval.

In the second half, Barrow piled on the pressure and carved out chances on the York line, but the Knights were in remarkable defensive form on the night and absorbed wave after wave of attack to keep the Raiders at bay.

And James Ford's men were rewarded for their efforts on 67 minutes as Harris crossed to all-but seal the points for the visitors.

Harris converted and added a later penalty goal to round off York's scoring for the night, though Barrow did have the final say as Gary Wheeler scored on 76 minutes, Sammut converting for a final score of 30-18 in favour of the Knights.
