Cornwall add three more

Cornwall add three more

Cornwall have continued their off-season recruitment ahead of their first-ever campaign in Betfred League One.

Harry Aaronson is the most high profile of the three with the 23-year-old full back or winger joining after spells with Swinton Lions, Keighley Cougars and hometown Oldham, where he helped them to promotion to the Championship in 2019.

He said: "Without this opportunity, I was probably lost to the game because of my work commitments which meant an inability to train. The club have been really supportive and I am very grateful for the opportunity.

"It is a part of history to launch something new and be part of a new club. We have some good up and coming players from the local region, mixed with those from Rugby League already. It's a great proposition and I can't wait to get started.

"I understand the reasons behind a club in Cornwall and I am fully behind spreading the game. With the raw talent we have, that's very exciting, but you do need players with experience in the league we're playing in itself.

"We also need experience of how to manage games and what to do in certain situations and I'm hoping to bring that to the team."

A busy week of squad additions continued for the club with the signing of utility player, Jake Lloyd.

The 24-year-old was born in Leigh and spent most of his life in his home town before he moved to Cornwall during the summer of 2020.

Prior to swapping the North West for Carlyon Bay, near St Austell, Lloyd played his Rugby League exclusively with Leigh Miners Rangers.

Lloyd gained representative honours whilst with the National Conference League outfit - these included playing for both Lancashire and Great Britain at BARLA level.

He said: "I'm made up because it's crazy to think that when I came down here, I wasn't expecting to be playing Rugby League at all in any capacity," Lloyd told cornwallrlfc.co.uk.

"To sign a contract with Cornwall's first professional Rugby League squad is unbelievable. Circumstances change and the stars align - I was told that big things are coming and here we are today."

Local three-quarter Decarlo Trerise has also been signed for the 2022 Betfred League One campaign.

The 27-year-old took part in the club's open player trial earlier this year and, along with Lloyd, who also inked terms with the club earlier this week, Trerise trained with Cornwall on an extended trial basis and his performances have resulted in the award of a playing contract for 2022.

Trerise, who was born in London but moved to the Duchy aged just two, has previously been a mainstay of Cornish Rebels in recent years.

He commented: "I'm excited to play for a professional Rugby League team and especially one that is starting in Cornwall.

"I've always enjoyed the game of rugby but union has never really been a game to suit my playing style. I started playing league as a bit of fun originally and I found myself playing a game that I got along with.

"League is fun to play and I am definitely in love with Rugby League and as proud Cornishman, to pull on the shirt for Cornwall’s newest venture, I am absolutely buzzing for it."
