Wigan Warriors make winning start under Matt Peet

Wigan Warriors make winning start under Matt Peet

Wigan Warriors got life under the stewardship of Matt Peet off to a winning start with a 10-24 victory over Hull Kingston Rovers on Friday evening.

Wingers Jake Bibby and Liam Marshall both notched doubles for the Warriors while Jai Field made a try-scoring return to the side after a year on the sidelines.

Bibby opened the scoring after nine minutes but Rovers halfback Mikey Lewis soon hit back the a moment of magic producing a fantastic solo try.

However, Wigan would take advantage of the return of scrums with Field latching onto a kick down field straight from the set-play.

Marshall would go the length of the field late in the first half thanks to a Bibby assist and the former Salford winger doubled his account just before half-time.

Matt Parcell’s 73rd minute try was mere consolation for Tony Smith’s side.

Elsewhere, Salford Red Devils edged out Castleford Tigers 16-26 in front of a bumper crowd at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle.

Marc Sneyd’s boot was instrumental in the victory as he notched seven goals, including four penalty goals.

Ken Sio, King Vuniyayawa and Deon Cross all went over for the Red Devils in the first half giving Salford a ten-point lead at the break.

Former Salford winger Derrell Olpherts scored twice for the Tigers alongside an effort by another former Red Devil George Griffin. However, Lee Radford’s men were always chasing the game in his first Betfred Super League game in charge.
