Warrington beat Salford in Mossop Testimonial

Warrington beat Salford in Mossop Testimonial

A young Warrington Wolves side produced a fine display to see off an inexperienced Salford Red Devils side 30-14 at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

The game took place to celebrate the career of Lee Mossop, the former Salford captain who retired through injury last season, as he kicked off his Testimonial Year.

Josh Thewlis kicked off the scoring with a try on four minutes, with Riley Dean kicking the first of his three goals on the night.

Ryan Lannon did strike back for the visitors just before half time to make it 6-4, but Ellis Robson's converted score stretched Warrington's lead to 12-4 at half time.

Jake Thewlis - younger brother of Josh [the pair are pictured above]- then opened the scoring in the second half for 16-4.

An unconverted Joe Brady score for the visitors swiftly followed before Jacob Lee got another, goaled by Jack Stevens brought Salford to just 16-14 behind.

But that was as good as things got for the Red Devils as Warrington rounded off a successful evening with three further tries.

Jake Thewlis scored again on 70 minutes, then Jack Darbs went in, before Ellis Longstaff's converted try late on put the game beyond doubt.
