Huddersfield Giants picked up their first away win of the Betfred Super League season with a workmanlike 28-16 victory at rain-soaked Widnes Vikings.
The Giants were looking to fire up their year after only picking up two points from their first four outings and they proved too good despite a late Vikings fightback.
Huddersfield were 14-0 up at half-time after Jake Mamo and Ryan Hinchliffe crossed and further tries from Oliver Roberts and Jermaine McGilvary appeared to put the visitors out of sight.
Widnes rallied following prop Wellington Albert's red card with scores from Joe Mellor, Matt Whitley and Stefan Marsh but Danny Brough's two late penalties ended their hopes of a remakable comeback.

Giants head coach Rick Stone said: "The main thing is the two points and that is something we have lacked in the last few weeks.
"Away wins are tough and although we got to 24-0 I knew Widnes would come back at us. They did that and the three tries they got were disappointing but the best part about tonight’s performance is the win."
Widnes boss Denis Betts said: "We had a 40 per cent completion rate which says it all. We played dumb in the conditions and a few Danny Brough kicks caused us problems.
"They handled the conditions very well and we handled it very poorly. The first half was our worst performance this season by some way."
