Exeter dominate Gloucestershire

UNIVERSITY ROUND UP – PREMIER SOUTH

By Daniel Richardson

Exeter's vice captain, Tom Pettengell, described his side's 60-12 away win over Gloucestershire as a 'dominant display' from EURL in the only Premier South fixture this week.

Despite a few injuries in the Gloucestershire team resulting in them running out of substitutes in the second half, the Exeter side still had a job to do.

After a Man of the Match performance from hat-trick hero Alex Ford, the away side secured a solid win.

The visitors were also awarded an eight-point try due to a late tackle after Josh Graham's try, to add insult to injury to the home team. The other six tries were scored by Tom Slater, Jack Ellis, James Lee and Dom Brook. Both Slater and Ellis crossed twice each.

Lee and Brook got one try each, with Brook successful with eight conversion attempts. Exeter's Tom Pettengell said: "It was a dominant display from EURL against a historically strong team, we couldn't be happier going into the Loughborough away match."

Gloucestershire only managed the two tries, as Callum Merret crossed twice and both were converted successfully by Tak Osaki. The home side's Man of the Match award was given to Will Gilder.

Gloucestershire captain Errol Carter said: "We felt we had a strong enough team to do a job, but it was a very disappointing result.

"The first half didn't go to plan but we came out firing in the second scoring two tries in quick succession, but ultimately we tired and Exeter took advantage of that and ran in unanswered tries."
