Queensbury Rugby League travel to Ashbourne in County Meath, Ireland, on Friday, June 16, to play the Longhorns RL in what's being billed as the first inaugural heritage match between the two clubs.
The Longhorns were formed in 2005 by Phil Gallagher (current chairman of Queensbury Rugby League) and Mick Aughey who has been involved in Rugby League in Ireland for over 25 years
The men from Ireland started life playing from Athboy Rugby Union Club, then moved to Navan before moving to their current home in Ashbourne and have quickly become one of Ireland's top sides.
The Club is currently run by Tony Dale, Mick Aughey and Ireland international Casey Dunne and have boosted many Ireland A internationals over the years it's been in existence.
Queensbury currently play in the Yorkshire Men's League Premier Division, coached by Liam Ruff assisted by Gregg Marriot and Phil Gallagher.
They have had their own ups and downs in recent years and have had to re-locate their home games to Halifax Rugby Union whilst they await the completion of their Chapel Lane facilities.
The club's trip to Ireland is seen as a massive step forwards as they look to strive towards bigger and better things for the team and the community, as well as attracting some much-needed interest into the amateur game.
The game is to be played on Friday night at Ashbourne Rugby Club and kicks off at 7.15 and, although Queensbury have a few players notable absentees who are unable to travel for the game, both sides will be looking to field their strongest line ups.
