Bath are Western 1A champions!

Bath are Western 1A champions!

By Elliott Cuff

In Western 1A, where else to start but the league decider? Bath and Cardiff Met clashed in what would be the title-winning match for the home side if they managed to keep their 100 per cent record, and keep it they did, winning 54-16.

Leading 28-0 at half time, Bath were always in the ascendency and they deservedly claim the title with seven wins from seven before the Christmas break.

Elsewhere in the division, South Wales claimed their first victory of the season in a hotly-contested match-up with Bristol. The Welsh side claimed a 30-28 win which puts them level with Bristol and off the joint-bottom position they had occupied prior to the game.

Cardiff Met A kept up their fine form with a convincing 70-16 win over Aberystwyth, but will be disappointed to see that a couple of slips early in the season ultimately cost them the title.

In South Eastern 1A, only one game was played, with the St Mary's A v Reading game postponed.

Brighton took to the field to comfortably beat Essex 68-16. This victory allowed them to pull away from St Mary's and Essex at the bottom, however they still remain a fair way off joint-leaders Reading and Brunel.

Brunel will get a chance to top the division next week when they take on Essex in the final South Eastern game before the Christmas break.
