Shaun Lunt confirms retirement

Former England International Shaun Lunt has announced his retirement from the game.

The hooker helped Leeds Rhinos lift the Betfred Super League in 2012 with a Grand Final victory over Warrington Wolves. Lunt was also named in the Betfred Super League Dream Team in 2013.

Lunt’s career began with Castleford Tigers before the Cumbrian made a name for himself with Workington Town between 2006 and 2008.

His performances with Workington earned Lunt a move to the Betfred Super League with Huddersfield Giants, featuring in the 2009 Challenge Cup Final for the club. He spent the 2012 season on loan with Leeds Rhinos helping them to the Betfred Super League title, as well as featuring in another Challenge Cup Final.

The 33-year-old went on to spend four seasons with Hull Kingston Rovers before brief stints with Batley Bulldogs and Barrow Raiders, however Lunt never made an appearance for the Raiders.

Lunt tweeted: “Well Rugby League it’s been emotional…. Our time has came to an end unfortunately.

“I’ve been very fortunate through hard work and dedication to have a career I could’ve only of dreams of as a kid!

“Met some sensational people along way also… On to the next chapter now.”
