This week’s Checkatrade Try of the Week features tries from the Betfred Super League, Betfred Championship and Betfred League 1 play-offs as well as the inaugural PDRL Grand Final which took place in Selby this past weekend.
Jack Johnson (Featherstone Rovers)
The first contender in this week’s Checkatrade Try of the Week is Featherstone Rovers’ Jack Johnson who scooped up the ball following a cross-field kick and raced 80 metres to score for the Flat Cappers sealing their place in the 2019 Million Pound Game and giving Ryan Carr’s men a shot at promotion to the Betfred Super League.
Kieran Gill (Newcastle Thunder)
Kieran Gill has been on fire for Newcastle Thunder in 2019 and he was on the scoresheet again as the Thunder beat Doncaster to progress to the Betfred League 1 Play-Off final. Newcastle shipped the ball to the right before moving it back to the left allowing Quentin Laulu-Togagae to slice through the line and find Gill in support.
Paul Marcon (Toulouse Olympique)
Toulouse Olympique have become a regular in this season’s Checkatrade Try of the Week and it is no surprise with their flamboyant style of Rugby League. They feature again this week thanks to Paul Marcon’s speculative finish in the corner against Featherstone.
Rangi Chase (Doncaster RLFC)
You never know what to expect from Rangi Chase when he has ball in hand and this weekend was no different as he scored for the Dons in Newcastle. The half-back put up a spiralling bomb before collecting it on the bounce moments later, he then threw an outrageous offload before scoring the try himself following a mix-up from the Thunder defence.
Liam Marshall (Wigan Warriors)
The Betfred Super League offering this week comes from Wigan Warriors’ Liam Marshall who scored down the right-hand side in their defeat against St Helens. Marshall finished a flowing Wigan move after centre Chris Hankinson broke through the line.
Tony Seward (Warrington Wolves PDRL)
Warrington Wolves’ PDRL side won the inaugural PDRL Grand Final this past weekend and a sensational individual effort from Tony Seward helped them on their way. Seward took a high Wakefield Trinity kick, rounded the defence and sprinted to the line to score under the posts.
