Following England’s 34-18 victory against Samoa, we take a look at some of the stat standouts (All stats provided by Opta) from the first Test in Wigan.
England ran in six tries against their opponents at The Brick Community Stadium on Sunday - with five different try scorers.
England captain George Williams stole the show and earned a Player of the Match performance on the back of a superb solo try and four try assists, as his side were out to seek revenge.
Herbie Farnworth ran the most metres (204), and scored the opening try, before going on to assist Victor Radley’s in the second half.
Radley, Matty Ashton, Matty Lees, Harry Newman, Jack Welsby and Dom Young all surpassed 100 metres on Sunday afternoon, with Radley making the most runs (21).
Ashton completed a double with a try in each half – a replica performance of that in the second Test against Tonga last year.
Young then made a wonderful break down the right edge and raced away, before offloading to Mikey Lewis who touched down. Young made a whooping 11 tackle bursts in total, proving too hot to handle for Samoa.
Lees and Mike McMeeken came up with 25 tackles in their 40-minute stints, while Daryl Clark and Ethan Havard respectively produced 30 and 31 tackles in 60 minutes.
John Bateman was England’s top tackler with 36, as Samoa were restricted to just three tries - England dominating the possession and territory throughout.
On the opposite side, Samoa’s Roger Tuivasa-Shack and Deine Mariner enjoyed strong international debuts – Tuivasa-Shack made the most metres of any player on the pitch (205), while Mariner bagged a brace and ran for 158 metres.
Shawn Blore and Terrell May were Samoa’s top tacklers (43 and 45), while John Asiata made a hefty 25 tackles in just 43 minutes.
