Widnes Vikings invite community sides to Betfred Championship opener

Widnes Vikings invite community sides to Betfred Championship opener

Widnes Vikings have continued their commitment with community sides in the area, and have invited a number of local community teams to their Betfred Championship opener against Barrow Raiders at the DCBL Stadium on Sunday.

Over recent months, the Vikings have invited several local age groups down to the DCBL Stadium for community training days with the Vikings’ first team and coaching staff - including a Club training session back in January.

On these days the teams were all presented with tickets for Widnes' opening game with Barrow, as the two sides look to kick-start their 2024 campaigns.

Head Coach Allan Coleman said: “It will be great to see the kids that have been involved in the community sessions over the last couple of months on Sunday.

“Moving forward, it is so important to us to make this club a place where all the local children want to come and be part of again.

“It is vital to engage with the young players in the town to get them connected with the idea of us being one club, and this has been an excellent start.”

Teams from Widnes Moorfield, Halton Farnworth Hornets, and West Bank Bears will all be in attendance at Sunday’s game - as the club continues to engage with all of their community sides further.

Tickets are available for the Round 1 clash between Widnes Vikings v Barrow Raiders. Fans can purchase tickets from the Vikings' official club website by clicking here.
