We’re in for another weekend of Social Rugby League festivities across the country, as Try Tag Rugby returns to Leeds and a number of Masters Rugby League teams are set for action, too.
On Saturday (August 20) Leeds’ own Stanningley Rugby Club will play host to the latest TAGFest, where a full day of Try Tag Rugby from 11:00-17:30 will be on offer.
Tournament Director, Bobby Domville, looked ahead: “We are looking forward to welcoming over thirty Try Tag Rugby teams from around the UK, in addition to our first ever Irish team, for the eighth instalment of TagFest Yorkshire.
“After a full day of Try Tag Rugby, Yorkshire pudding and spoon races, food trucks, a DJ and a late-night bar in Leeds, we are confident that this year will be the most engaging, enjoyable, and most inclusive Yorkshire tournament ever!”
Sunday (August 21) sees another round of Masters RL fixtures, as York Lokos Masters play Hull Masters in a special game at their new home at New Earswick, in memory of Daz ‘Smiler’ Watson.
Daz had a few stints at Southlands throughout the 1990’s and actually played in York Lokos first ever game of Masters, even scoring a try.
‘Smiler’ passed away last August, and as his memory lives on, the charities chosen by Daz's family are Dementia UK and Marie Curie – there will be an auction for a unique commemorative playing shirt, carrying Daz’s roulette number 14.
Elsewhere, St Albans host Medway Dragons, and Leyland welcome the well-travelled Arlecdon Rams from Cumbria.
There are also some enticing Masters games in prospect in Huddersfield, Hull, Bradford, Wigan, Warrington, Halifax and Dewsbury!
Away from the games being played, Monday (August 22) is set to be an exiting day for Masters RL, as the England Masters squad for the forthcoming RLWC Masters International Festival will be announced.
The festival will be held at York St John’s on Sunday 13 November with Australia, Canada, England, France, Ireland and Wales taking part.
Another notable event is the upcoming Masters Referee course, which will be via Zoom on Tuesday 30 August. This course is provided at no cost and is ideal for those who wish to start to referee Masters, or for those who simply want to learn more about the game.
