More support for Volunteers - Survey is extended until New Year

A game-wide survey of rugby league volunteers has been extended to the New Year.

The Rugby Football League is surveying volunteers across clubs and education to understand the support, development opportunities, reward and recognition that interest and motivate core volunteers in the sport. All volunteers are invited to take part in the survey, including those who have volunteered at major events.

The Rugby Football League is asking league administrators and club representatives to share the survey and encourage as many volunteers as possible to complete it. It takes about 5 minutes to compete and all who do will be entered into a draw to win some England Hummel leisure wear and accessories.

Marc Lovering, Development Director said; “Sport England encourages all major sports to undertake regular volunteer surveys and refine their strategies to support volunteers based on what they want and need. That’s what we are doing.

No two volunteers are the same. Motivations and experiences vary. By understanding the needs of volunteers – whether that is support in key areas such as coaching or fundraising or marketing – we can tailor the support we offer to existing volunteers who are at the heart of the sport. We can also understand as much as possible about what more the national governing body can do to help clubs, schools, colleges and universities recruit new volunteers to the sport.”

Sport England’s own research shows that volunteering in sport can contribute to positive mental health, confidence, friendships and happier and joined-up communities.
