Official Report / Commentary

Albert Kelly scored a superb hat-trick as Hull FC moved into third place in the Betfred Super League table following a hard-fought 31-18 victory over Castleford Tigers at the Mend-A-Hose-Jungle.

The Black and Whites had to come from a 14-4 half-time deficit to secure their third successive win thanks to the half-back’s 18-minute treble and Ratu Naulago’s brace on a night where Marc Sneyd passed 1,000 points for Hull.

Greg Minikin and Naulago traded tries as both teams struggled to play their fluent passing rugby before Peter Mata’utia added a brace of penalties and Junior Moors marked his return from injury with a score to put Castleford ahead at the break.

Naulago’s second score and Kelly’s fine finish turned the match on its head for Hull, with Marc Sneyd adding a penalty to extend their lead to 18-14.

Greg Eden hit back to level the scores but Hull restored their lead through Kelly’s second try before the Australian completed his hat-trick following another fine break from Naulago and Sneyd, who finished with 11 points, capped the result with a late drop-goal.

Hull FC head coach Lee Radford said: "I’m really proud of the turnaround after half-time. I thought in the first half, the speed at the start of their sets really hurt us and that was one thing we needed to fix.

"I’m over the moon with the response after half-time. To come here and get a result is really tough."

Castleford boss Daryl Powell said: “The second half was really frustrating but I thought in the first half we really took control of the game and put Hull under a lot of pressure.

“I thought our game-management in the second half was terrible. I just don’t think we had any control in the game at any point."
