#RFL125 Super Fans’ shortlists go to public vote

Rugby League’s greatest player is the first poll

Rugby League’s ‘super fans’ have been selected – now it’s down to business for the 125 successful nominees who will help shape the Rugby League’s 125th anniversary celebrations during 2020.

The 125 fans have been asked to cast their votes on a series of eight ‘Greatest’ polls covering Rugby League’s long and proud history. Their votes have defined the shortlists for the following categories that will be put before Rugby League fans everywhere over the course of the 2020 season.

  1. Greatest Player
  2. Greatest Try
  3. Greatest Coach
  4. Greatest Team
  5. Greatest Challenge Cup Final Moment
  6. Greatest Shock
  7. Greatest Game
  8. Greatest Ashes moment

Mark Foster, the RFL’s chief commercial officer, said: “The ‘super fans’ have spoken, now Rugby League supporters everywhere will get to have their say throughout the year on the magic that 125 years of Rugby League has given us.

“There’ll be talking points aplenty, with players, personalities and magical moments we can all agree on, and others that we’ll all be arguing about into the early hours.

“We are delighted with the contribution Rugby League’s 125 super fans have made so far and there will be many more opportunities coming their way throughout 2020.”

The first poll, to decide Rugby League’s greatest-ever player, is now live HERE. ‘Super fans’ have chosen the following shortlist.

  • Brian Bevan
  • Ellery Hanley
  • Wally Lewis
  • Kevin Sinfield
  • Clive Sullivan

The results of each ‘Greatest’ poll will be revealed in a series of short films, exclusively for Our League members, throughout 2020.

85 males and 40 females make up the 125 super fans panel. The youngest super fan is aged 16, the eldest is 90, and they support 35 different clubs – both professional and amateur.
