England Women's star and Match Official up for BBC SPOTY award

Leeds Rhinos', England Women's and RFL Match Official, Caitlin Beevers, has been shortlisted for this year's BBC Young Sports Personality Award, it was revealed on Tuesday.

Beevers, who has spent the last six weeks touring with the England Women, first in the World Nines competition in Sydney, before a historic 13s tour of Papua New Guinea, caps a hugely successful year with the nomination, after securing the Coral Women's Challenge Cup, and Betfred Women's Super League title with the Rhinos.

Caitilin is also a qualified RFL Match Official, who has officiated in the National Conference League and Open Ages when not playing herself, and has also had the opportunity to officiate at Wembley on Coral Challenge Cup Final day.

The young star made her Rhinos debut aged just 16-years-old, after signing for the club’s Academy Dewsbury Moor. In her debut season, she scored 17 tries in 14 appearances, moving from the wing to full back, and was a try scorer in the Challenge Cup Final victory to help the Rhinos Women’s team secure their first ever piece of silverware.

She has continued to impress in 2019, scoring one of the most memorable tries of the season in the Coral Challenge Cup semi-final to send her team back to the final for a second consecutive season. Another final, another try - helped her team clinch the trophy for the second consecutive season.

The full-back then celebrated her 18th birthday with a Grand Final victory over Castleford, before flying to Australia to be part of the Rugby League World Cup Nines, where she scored a try in the opener against Papua New Guinea.

Caitlin, en-route back from Papua New Guinea, was delighted to hear the news:

"I'm obviously really happy and honoured to have been selected.

"It's been a massive year for me in terms of referee-ing and playing, as well as representing England, so thank you!"
