My Tour Diary: Part Seven | Caitlin Beevers

My Tour Diary: Part Seven | Caitlin Beevers

It’s almost gameday and the nerves are kicking in…

Tomorrow I’ll get to walk out as an England Women’s player in Papua New Guinea but it’s all about the performance at the moment and making sure we come away with the victory.

We’ve trained really well all week and I feel as though we’ve really focused on the things, we wanted to improve from the victory in Goroka and are now in an even better place heading into tomorrow’s game at the Oil Search National Football Stadium in Port Moresby.

We had the chance to take our captain’s run to the Oil Search yesterday and it was great to get out onto the field – which is quite wide – and get used to the surroundings. Of course, I’m sure it will be different when there is a big vocal crowd in place for our game and the following fixture between Great Britain and Papua New Guinea.

The wide pitch should suit us given some of the players we have in the side. I thought Jodie Cunningham was outstanding last weekend in the halves. A lot of the talk was about Emily Rudge post-game – and rightly so – but Jodie set up three of her tries I believe and was a constant threat for us going forward. She hasn’t played in the halves for England much before I don’t think but she certainly didn’t disappoint and I’m sure she’ll be at the top of her game again in the second test.

We like to play expansive Rugby League and show our attacking ability and we will be aiming to do that again tomorrow. Personally, I’m excited to get out on that field as a wide pitch means there will be more space and that really suits me, hopefully I can find some space and cause some issues for the Orchids.

It’s really good to know that people back home will be able to watch us in action thanks to the game being broadcast on BBC via Red Button and Online and on Our League. I’ve said it on multiple occasions over the last year but the strides being made in the Women’s game is terrific and this is yet another big step forward.

I hope as many people as possible tune in – despite the early kick-off time back home – and support us.

Hopefully, next time I write my blog, it will be in celebration of a 2-0 test series victory…
