England Universities Regional Trials Registration

Registration is now open for the England Universities Rugby League Regional Trials, with all players with ambitions to play for England invited and encouraged to register.

The 2019 programme will see England defend their RFL President's Cup title against GB Police, GB Teachers and UK Armed Forces as well as travelling to Ireland for a week to defend their Student Rugby League Four Nations tournament. Further international fixtures may also feature in the programme.

"We have a really exciting programme lined up" said Richard Tate, England Universities Head Coach.

"An overseas trip to Ireland wil be the highlight of the programme, but with competitive games against other representative sides and more games to be confirmed, players will be representing both their country and University Rugby League in some very physical encounters.

"With the Student Rugby League World Cup on the horizon in 2021, it will also be a good opportunity for younger players to begin to stake their claim for a World Cup place in three seasons' time"

The pathway to England starts with selection for the region in which a student is studying, with a round of inter-regional games:

  • North West v North East
  • Midlands v Yorkshire
  • South East v South West

Following the inter-regional games, players are selected for their Origin side, with Midlands, South East and South West alligning to the South and North West, North East and Yorkshire alligning to the North, with the University Origin Match taking place in early 2019, leading to the final England squad being selected.

Trials for the regional sides will take place on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th November 2018 with exact details, plus details of each region's coaching staff, will be announced shortly.
