Rugby Football League seeks Community Game Discipline Panel Members

A volunteer role...

The Rugby Football League (RFL) is looking to recruit new panel members to sit on RFL panels across the North of England.

RFL panel members sit monthly and are asked to sit on cases on an ad hoc basis when required. Meetings are usually on an evening, so a degree of flexibility is therefore required.

This is a voluntary role and as such there is no remuneration, however travel expenses will be paid in line with the volunteer agreement. The expectation is that each panel member will be asked to sit a minimum of 4 occasions per season, but this will vary depending upon availability of other panel members and the number of cases in each region.

The key skills required:

  • An understanding of the laws of Rugby League
  • Ability to respond promptly to emails requesting availability and to be flexible with availability for sitting on panels
  • Ability to follow the discipline process, assess and interpret evidence.
  • Must be able to work in a confidential setting including refraining from commenting on specific disciplinary cases (under any jurisdiction) both in private or in a public online forum
  • Ability to engage positively with other panel members, RFL staff and volunteers


The Panel Members do not need to be legally qualified but should demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of the game and have knowledge of its disciplinary procedures or demonstrate a willingness and capacity to learn.

Recent connection to the game or playing experience would be a real advantage but is not essential.
